On a wing and a prayer in the fall of 1982
Bill and Kay Van Fleet uprooted their
family and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio,
to open Boot Country in an old house
on Chester Road. Bill brought his 15
year knowledge of selling and custom
fitting western boots gained while working
for Scott Colburn Saddlery in Farmington,
Michigan, and Schneiders in Cleveland, Ohio to this
new business. They sold "only" western boots to a
steady stream of customers who passed Boot Country's
name and location to others by word-of-mouth.
Through a lot of long days and with hard work, Boot
Country now includes four retail stores in Cincinnati,
Dayton and Batavia, Ohio and Florence, Kentucky.
It has grown from 1000 sq. ft. of space in the first old
house (2 pictures above) to over 30,000 sq. ft. of
combined retail floor space and over $2,000,000 in inventory in the four retail stores.
Boot Country now carries an extensive line of western and work apparel, boots, hats,
jeans, leather goods, accessories and gifts for men, women and children. The
following is only a small sampling of the brands that Boot Country carries:
